On 24th January, National Girl Child Day, Anahat for Change Foundation proudly inaugurated “Khwab”, a children’s club in Dalmore aimed at making learning fun with engaging activities and building a community feeling with kids from families working in tea gardens. This initiative is a step towards empowering children, especially girls, by providing them with a platform to grow, learn and participate in meaningful social activities that keeps them away from incidences of sexual violence.

70 adolescent kids thronged the space and played chess and ludo and waxed eloquent on the topic “An Educated Girl, A Stronger Society” and created loving chaos! Six winners were recognised for their outstanding speeches and were awarded school bags!

The event was graced by Dipesh Darjee (Pradhan, Birpara 2 Gram Panchayat), Bishnu Ghatani (Social Activist), and Bhagwan Das Munda (Member, West Bengal Tribal Development Committee). Their support, along with contributions from the Tribal Development Welfare Board, Birpara GP 2’s Panchayat Pradhan, ICDS workers and other community stakeholders, played a crucial role in making this initiative a reality.

“Khwab” symbolises hope, opportunity and a brighter future for children in the tea gardens of the Dooars. Through initiatives like these, Anahat remains committed to creating safe spaces where young minds thrive. Let’s continue working together to uplift and empower the next generation!

And huge congratulations to our Alipurduar field coordinators, who worked day and night over several weeks to make this possible
